Beginner Courses

Do I need prior sewing experience?

No experience is needed! Classes have been designed to teach you the basic sewing skills and techniques you need to be able to finish a garment or item. 

Do I need a sewing machine?

No you not do need a sewing machine as we have them available for you to use!

What if I want to bring my sewing machine to a class?

If you do have your own sewing machine, you are more than welcome to bring it to classes but please make sure that it is in good working condition and your machine is your responsibility. Any mechanical failure of your machine is not the responsibility of The Godmothers’ Needle. 

If you are interested in investing in a sewing machine, we recommend trying a mid-priced trusted brand. Having using a number of different machines, we have found Brother, Janome, Bernina and Elna brands to be hardy machines that sew well!

How much will classes cost?

Our Beginner Classes consist of two x 2.5 hour sessions run over a fortnight, and cost $100 in total.

Our single 2.5 hour session Beginner Classes are $50 in total.

How many spots are available per class?

We like to keep the classes small so no more than 5 people per class. This allows students to get all the help they need!

What do I need to bring?

Generally you will only need to bring some fabric and matching thread, and of course yourself! For some patterns you may need some other haberdashery to match your fabric but we will be supplying everything else, from sewing machines to patterns, scissors, measuring tapes, pins and more!

What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancellation needs to be made no less than 24 hours before the day of the class or a cancellation fee will incur - $25. For more information, check out our Terms and Conditions!
